Where has 20 years gone?
It’s been two decades since Sacramento jazz guitarist/composer Henry Robinett and his trio have played in a spot they use to play every week for some nine years: On Broadway in downtown Sacramento.
The venerable jazz club that hosted local musicians as well as internationally known artists – Art Blakey, Wynton Marsalis, Flora Purim and Airto, to name a few – shuttered its doors in the mid-1990s… that is, until last night.
The new Roland’s On Broadway was packed for the Robinett reunion band including Dr. Joe Gilman on keyboards, bassist Rob Lemas and Rick Lotter on drums with a few special guests sitting in as well. The gathering also served as a CD release party for Robinett’s excellent “I Have Known Mountains” recording.
Will there be more live music offerings at the jazz lounge formerly known as On Broadway? Fingers are crossed.
