Flying way under the music promotional radar, the 2016 edition of the Sacramento Music Festival featured the exceptional straight ahead jazz of Jacam Manricks, a world-class composer/arranger/educator and saxman, well-respected on the New York music scene and lecturer at UC Davis.
Your Jazz Wire editor considers Mr. Manricks’ sets at the Embassy Suites hotel one of the major highlights (and candidate for THE most under-publicized acts) of this year’s festival. Manrick’s band included Sacramento’s own TDWR (Talent Deserving Wider Recognition) pianist Joe Gilman, Ben Thomas on bass.
Manrick has performed with Ray Charles, Ravi Coltrane, Robin Eubanks, Wycliff Gordon, David Liebman among many others.
