Nepal: Good Morning, Namche Bazaar!

The view above is from inside my tent at Namche Bazaar, gateway to Mt. Everest, as seen during a trek through the Khumbu region of Nepal in 2000.

At the time, Namche (elevation 11,286 feet) was home to about 1,500 residents including the mother of my Sherpa guide Sonam Sherpa who made one strong cup of Yak butter tea! .

Himalayan trading center, tourist hub, and yak herders highway, Namche is/was also home to a high altitude Irish pub complete with a pool table – it was carried up to the village on the backs of Sherpas.
